Activated charcoal is a highly porous purifying agent that works quietly beneath the surface of your potting mix, filtering out toxins, impurities, and excess minerals that can build up over time. It supports a healthy microbial environment by inhibiting mould and bacteria growth, and its porous structure absorbs excess moisture — a useful buffer if you tend to overwater.
A small addition to any potting mix can make a meaningful difference to long-term soil health, particularly in closed terrariums or pots without drainage where impurities have nowhere to escape.
